Substantial Six Figure Settlement For Maternal Birth Injuries

Ronan Hynes, Partner of the Clinical Negligence Team of MHP Sellors LLP recently acted for a Limerick woman who has received a substantial six figure out of Court settlement for serious maternal injuries sustained during the birth of her son.

The lady suffered a fourth-degree perineal tear which resulted in permanent and significant bowel and urinary difficulties, which ultimately required surgery.  Our client had a permanent sacral nerve stimulator inserted to control her symptoms.  The High Court settlement included a sum for general damages for pain and suffering, the future replacement costs of the stimulator together with costs for future care and assistance.

Ronan Hynes, Partner commented upon the settlement:

Perineal tear cases are notoriously difficult, and I am delighted to have been able to help our client secure a very substantial six figure sum.  We engaged world renowned experts in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology and others and were greatly assisted with expert Counsel, Denis McCollough SC and Peter O’Brien BL.  I want to extend my best wishes to our client and her family for the future.”

Our client commented as follows:

“In all aspects of life, it is important to get the right people to do the right job and with Ronan Hynes and the whole team at MHP Sellors we got just that. The care and professionalism they have shown us throughout this journey can only described as been 110%. They left no stone unturned to get us a fair and just settlement for what we as a family went through. We cannot thank them enough for all they have done for us only by saying that if you want the right people in your corner no matter how big or small you think your fight may be, these are the people you need in your corner and believe me they will do everything it takes to give you the help, care and professionalism you need.”
