Key Appointments and Retirements

L-R Claire Benson, Solicitor MHP Sellors LLP and Kate McInerney, Partner MHP Sellors LLP

MHP Sellors is pleased to announce two senior appointments while also recognising the outstanding contributions of two long-serving colleagues as they retire.

Experienced defence litigator Kate McInerney has been appointed Partner, and Claire Benson has joined the firm’s Litigation team.

Kate brings extensive expertise acting for insurance companies across all court levels, with experience spanning recovery matters, defamation, judicial review, and commercial disputes. Her appointment marks a significant strengthening of the firm’s litigation capability.

Claire joins with a wealth of experience in complex litigation and employment law, further enhancing the depth and breadth of the team.

While these appointments mark exciting new beginnings, the firm also takes this opportunity to celebrate the careers of John Shaw and Helen Rackard on their retirements.

John, an expert in local authority law, planning, and environmental matters, served as County Solicitor for over 30 years and was a former Managing Partner of Michael Houlihan and Partners. His contribution to the legal profession and the firm leaves a lasting legacy that will be greatly missed by colleagues and clients alike.

Helen, a highly respected civil litigator, specialised in commercial litigation and dispute resolution at both High Court and Circuit Court level. Over a distinguished career spanning more than 40 years, she earned immense respect for her professionalism, expertise, and commitment to clients.

Stephen Keogh, Managing Partner at MHP Sellors, commented:

While it is always bittersweet to see esteemed colleagues retire, we are deeply grateful for their invaluable contributions and the lasting impact they have made on the firm. At the same time, we are delighted to welcome Kate McInerney as Partner and Claire Benson to the team. Their appointments further strengthen our Litigation practice and support our continued growth.

MHP Sellors has experienced sustained expansion and now employs over 50 staff across its Limerick and Ennis offices.
