Summit Challenge Update: 4 Weeks to Base Camp

Training and preparation is now well under way for the Sellors Summit Challenge on 16 June 2018 with the Sellors team heading for base camp in 4 weeks’ time in the MacGillycuddy’s Reeks, Co. Kerry.  The Sellors team have been working hard on their cardiovascular fitness and clocking up the miles on the hills and mountains of Limerick, the South West and beyond.  The Sellors team have climbed the ascents of Moylussa, Co. Clare, Croagh Patrick, Co. Mayo, Mullaghmore, County Clare, Knocknarea, Co Sligo and Benbaun, Co. Galway.  Further ascents are planned for the Galtees, Co. Limerick and the Twelve Bens, Connemara, Co. Galway to name but a few in the build up to Summit Day.

We received our Summit itinerary and preparation guide from leading tour guide, Kerry Climbing and here is a glimpse of the brief for Summit Day.

A Challenging graded route – 7+ hrs and 12km. Most definitely NOT to be underestimated and quite often is!!! Requires a high degree of fitness gained from regular exercise/gym work. Arguably one of the finest walks in Ireland, this 12km trek takes in 3 of Ireland’s highest mountains, Corrán Tuathail 1039m, Beenkeragh 1010m and Caher 1001m. This trek truly provides you with what The McGillycuddys Reeks has to offer in terms of breathtaking views and exciting challenges. Being comfortable with heights, sheer drops and being prepared to use your hands is essential as this route involves scrambling over extremely steep rocky ground with no trails. We reiterate – a sensational route but most definitely not to be underestimated!”

The Sellors Team looks forward to the Challenge!
