Sellors secure significant High Court settlement for Limerick hairdresser
A 45 year old Limerick hairdresser obtained a Court settlement at Limerick High
Court in April 2015 in the sum of €75,000 with the help of Sellors Solicitors. Mr S
was involved in a road traffic accident on 17th February 2011 and sustained
significant soft tissue injuries to his lower back and neck. MRI scans taken post-accident
revealed significant degenerative changes in his lower back and neck
which were rendered symptomatic by the accident and resulted in referred
numbness and pins and needles radiating down to his right hand. Mr S found his
symptoms affected his ability to work and consequently he had to reduce his
hours. He continued to suffer lower back, neck and right hand symptoms some
five years after the accident. Mr. S had a pre-existing history of lower back pain
which had resolved prior to the accident which complicated matters and there
was conflicting medical evidence on the extent to which his injuries had been
caused by the road traffic accident.
The case was heard before Judge Hanna at Limerick High Court in April 2015.
Liability was conceded by the Defendants and a €77,500 settlement was
negotiated during the Trial.
Ronan Hynes, Litigation Partner with Sellors, acted for Mr S and commented that:
“The very positive settlement that we have obtained for Mr S represented a 500%
uplift on the initial offer from the Injuries Board and illustrates the importance for
injured parties to seek independent legal advice.”
